Yesterday was my first time really getting to experience NYC. The city is… amazing. Manhattan is like downtown Chicago, only much much larger.
Good things: the Village (meaning Greenwich Village) and the surrounding environs are Awesome. Uptown is Awesome. Times Square is Awesome. Rockefeller Plaza is Awesome. My $12 watch is more or less Awesome.
Bad things: I have to go home eventually
Tonight, I’m seeing Avenue Q, and we decided to scrap Boston, and do more NYC Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday night, we’re seeing Spamalot.
Methinks I’d like to find a job in NYC.

At the moment, I’m sitting on the Amtrak on the way to NYC, while Krystal’s in the restroom on the train brushing her teeth. So far, it’s been a good trip. I’ve seen bits of America that I haven’t really been able to see before—but those bits have so far been rather depressing. We passed by an abandoned factory that must have covered an acre or two itself, with a large office tower in the middle of it that was around twenty stories or so. Almost none of the windows in the complex had glass anymore, and it made me wonder just what happened to all the countless who were working there when the plant was closed. What made it more sad is we passed by countless abandoned factories before and after this one. It’s just like the livelihood of tens of thousands disappeared overnight.
Yes, I realize that’s just about what happened. I’ve seen abandoned factories before; that’s nothing new. What struck me about it is I’ve never seen so many in such a comparatively small space.
Apparently while I was in the restroom, the border patrol came and went through the train. I’m sad I missed it; I’m sure it must be fun to be questioned about my whereabouts by federal agents
I’ll update sometime… later. As for now, ta!
