Hamper Business
April 28, 2007 12:53 pmI’m doing laundry today (for I’m wearing the emergency boxers), and I realized something about my hamper. It really needs to be set up in a First-In, First-Out (FIFO) manner. I tend to wear a lot of the same outfits within a given time span, because I almost never get around to doing all my laundry at once. This results in me tending to clean the clothes on the top of the hamper/pile that surrounds the hamper a lot, because they get cleaned, I wear them, and they go back on the hamper.
So, how to solve this?
I was looking at my hamper. It’s not a bad one, really. It’s nice and sturdy, with four wire loops holding up mesh sides. There’s a synthetic cloth bottom, and a hole in the top. Now, why couldn’t you have zippered ends, instead of one closed and one open? That way, you could fill it up, zipper up the top, turn it over, and open it up to take the clothes out of the bottom to put them in the wash. I, for one, know it would result in a much better turnover in my outfits than I currently have.
Bonus points if it included temperature alarms to signal when the microbial life going on in the old dirty clothes have generated a given amount of heat (this signaling when you really need to do laundry).
